AUSTIN, Texas — We have had quite a bit of heavy rain across Central Texas this week, especially in the Hill Country.
This was particularly true in northern sections of the Hill Country, where a flood warning was issued for the Llano River as a result of the rainfall causing moderate flooding early Wednesday morning, although the crest was slightly lower than forecast.
Because of that, the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) announced flood operations at Wirtz and Starcke dams, passing floodwaters from the Llano River into Lake LBJ, then Lake Marble Falls before eventually emptying into Lake Travis. However, these flood operations have since concluded.
This is causing some to speculate how much the rain will impact levels at Lake Travis. One popular Reddit post even claims that the lake will rise by as much as 10 feet as a result of the flooding.
Lake Travis has increased by 6% over the past 48 hours. That's consistent with a roughly 7-foot rise since midnight Tuesday, when the lake was at 634.77 feet.
While we don't expect any more heavy rain this week, we still have some scattered showers and thunderstorms remaining in the forecast through the weekend. If the rain falls in those same areas, it should add some more inflows into our Highland Lakes.
