AUSTIN, Texas — Austin police released bodycam footage Friday of officers shooting a man accused of a deadly stabbing.
Austin Police Department (APD) officers shot and injured 26-year-old Jose Reynaldo Martinez-Argueta on Jan. 21 after he allegedly killed a woman during a stabbing attack in northeast Austin. Two other people also suffered life-threatening injuries during the stabbing.
Police said they immediately encountered Martinez-Argueta holding a knife when they kicked the door in and entered the home on Uttimer Lane. The video shows three officers firing their guns at Martinez-Argueta, leaving him injured.
Martinez-Argueta faces a murder charge and two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He remains in jail on a combined bond of $3.1 million.
What happened?
Austin police said they received a call just before 12:30 a.m. from someone claiming they were "bleeding a lot" after being stabbed multiple times. The person also told police the suspect was still inside the home with a woman and holding a knife.
When officers arrived, one of the victims was standing with a group of people outside of the home. As officers gathered information, they heard screams inside the house and decided to make their way inside.
That's when they allegedly discovered Martinez-Argueta with a knife holding a woman with multiple stab wounds. Officers shot Martinez-Argueta and then escorted the woman and three unharmed children out of the house safely.

As police searched the home, they found 30-year-old Maryuri Leticia Reconco-Moncada on the floor of a bedroom with multiple stab wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
During the investigation, police learned Reconco-Moncada was in a relationship with Martinez-Argueta and that the two were involved in a physical disturbance before the stabbing.
Austin police said the three officers who shot Martinez-Argueta remain on administrative leave, per department policy.
