LOCKHART, Texas — Lockhart police have made a second arrest in connection with the city's first homicide of the year, though details remain limited on exactly what happened.
Lockhart police said at approximately 3 a.m. on Aug. 16, officers received a call about gunfire near Trinity and Rosewood streets. Police and medics then responded to an additional call near South Colorado Street and East Prairie Street, where they found a man suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
The victim, identified as 20-year-old Carlos Sanchez, was taken to a Kyle hospital, where he died roughly an hour after the initial call.
On the morning of Wednesday, Aug. 21, police arrested a juvenile suspect on a warrant for first-degree murder in connection with Sanchez's death. The suspect was located at a home on East Market and Carver streets and initially attempted to flee, but was ultimately arrested without incident.
The U.S. Marshals-led Lone Star Fugitive Task Force assisted with the arrest, and Lockhart police said four adult suspects were also arrested that same day for allegedly harboring a fugitive.
On Friday, Aug. 30, Lockhart police provided another update, saying that officials had executed a search warrant at three residences on the east side of the city, in relation to Sanchez's death.
Police said one person was arrested without incident and charged with a Class A misdemeanor, though it's unclear at this time what the charge is.
Lockhart police said this investigation is ongoing, and more arrests are possible.
