AUSTIN, Texas — It's official: the biggest stars in Major League Soccer are coming to Austin in 2025.
The announcement was made official Wednesday during a special event at Antone's Nightclub in Downtown Austin as the league prepares for its 2024 All-Star game in Ohio.
It's the first MLS All-Star Game to come to Texas since Houston hosted Manchester United in 2010.
While the date and opponent for the 2025 game will be announced at a later time, the MLS All-Star game usually features the league's all-stars facing a big European club during its preseason. However, this year will be the third time in four years that the MLS All-Stars take on the Liga MX All-Stars, who they're 2-0 against.
"We are thrilled to bring the 2025 MLS All-Star Game to Austin, a market known for its rich cultural and entertainment scene and world-class events," MLS Commissioner Don Garber said. "Austin has quickly become one of the top soccer markets in our country, selling out 60 consecutive Austin FC matches and hosting many marquee soccer events the past three years."
During the week of the match, Austin will host concerts, fan events and soccer competitions, leading up to the MLS All-Star Skills Challenge and game at Q2 Stadium.
According to the Austin Sports Commission, the All-Star game is expected to generate a minimum of $20 million in economic impact for the city.
