AUSTIN, Texas — Fresh off an appearance in the College Football Playoff, the Texas Longhorns football team is sending the most players it ever has to the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.
The Scouting Combine, which takes place from Feb. 26 until March 4, is the primary conduit for NFL teams to evaluate potential prospects in person prior to the NFL Draft.
Here are the Longhorns who will participate at this year's Combine:
- Running back Jonathon Brooks
- Linebacker Jaylan Ford
- Offensive lineman Christian Jones
- Wide receiver Adonai Mitchell
- Defensive tackle Byron Murphy II
- Running back Keilan Robinson
- Tight end Ja'Tavion Sanders
- Defensive tackle T'Vondre Sweat
- Defensive back Ryan Watts
- Wide receiver Jordan Whittington
- Wide receiver Xavier Worthy
Among the highlights are wide receivers Mitchell and Worthy and defensive linemen Murphy II and Sweat, all of whom are projected to be top 40 picks in April's draft. Players like Brooks, Sanders, Jones and Ford are projected to be Day 2 picks, meaning they are projected to be picked in rounds two or three.
A good performance at the Scouting Combine very frequently leads to an improved draft stock for NFL prospects. Players like Whittington, Watts and Robinson – all of whom are projected to be either late Day 3 selections (meaning they'd be picked in rounds four to seven) or undrafted free agents – can potentially elevate their respective stocks drastically with impressive showings.
The Longhorns will be one of the best represented programs in Indianapolis. The only teams that will have a bigger presence than Texas will be reigning national champion Michigan, who will be the most represented with a Combine record of 18 participants; national semifinalist Washington, who will have 13 players represented; and Florida State, who will have 12 participants. The Longhorns are tied with Georgia with 11 players, while Alabama and Penn State will both have 10 participants.
