Austin's Trail of Lights: Avoid these roads at these times

Barton Springs Road will see nightly closures.

AUSTIN, Texas — Austin's Trail of Lights kicks off Tuesday in Zilker Park and that means that road closures also kick off Tuesday night. 

If you're commuting in the evening hours near Zilker Park, nightly closures on Barton Springs Road will take place until Dec. 23. Barton Springs Road will close from Azie Morton Road to Andrew Zilker Road starting as early as 4 p.m. until 11 p.m.

Austin's Trail of Lights kicks off Tuesday

Eastbound traffic should instead take the MoPac Expressway to Cesar Chavez Street to Lamar Boulevard. 

Westbound traffic should take Lamar Boulevard to Cesar Chavez Street to MoPac.

The City of Rollingwood closed some roads to outside vehicles because of the large amount of traffic this annual event brings, according to our partners at the Austin American-Statesman. All residential roads will be closed to through traffic from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. nightly through Dec. 23.

There will be an officer at a barricade on Riley Road/Paige Drive and Stratford Drive. Barricades will also be present at Stratford and Ashworth drives and Ridgewood Road and Hatley Drive.

The event – which runs nightly from Dec. 10 through Dec. 23 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. – was recently nominated to be one of USA Today's "Best Holiday Lights Displays."
