AUSTIN, Texas — KVUE wants to help “Keep Austin Local” by highlighting local businesses, events and people that make Austin special.
On Monday, KVUE stopped by Austin Creative Reuse, a nonprofit that was founded in 2009 and focuses on conservation and reuse through creativity, education and community building. The center collects, processes and resells gently-used creative materials donated from individuals and businesses. There is a large selection of craft materials available for purchase.
The center had only been in its new location for 11 days in March 2020 before they had to close due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It remained closed for eight months and reopened to a limited schedule with less than 25% capacity. They are slowly adding capacity back into the store and are hoping to be back at full capacity by the end of 2021.

One way you can help Austin Creative Reuse is by volunteering. There are a few different ways to volunteer, including processing donations at home or in the center, teaching workshops or doing donation drives.
The center has education programs and workshops that people can participate in, where they offer affordable art classes for all ages and skill levels, reuse artist and maker showcases, low-cost studio rentals and sustainability meetups.
In July, the center will host a “Christmas in July” card-making workshop, kids jewelry-making workshop and more. Applications are also open for their next Reuse Market weekend, which will take place in September. Applications are also open for their first Reuse Fashion Show, which will take place in October.
You can find Austin Creative Reuse at 2005 Wheless Lane , Austin, Texas, 78723 or online here.
